Our oxygen cleaning is oriented towards partial pressure blending of Nitrox in any percentage since that is what we do. This is a more rigorous cleaning process than that which might be used for mixes below 40% that are introduced from a Nitrox bank. Since the cylinder must be so clean and free of hydrocarbons it is best to start with a cylinder that is clean to the eye. That is don’t pick your oldest cylinder to dedicate to Nitrox, pick the newest. If you would like we can quickly evaluate your cylinder for this process. The valve also must be cleaned for partial pressure blending of Nitrox. And the valve must be made of oxygen compatible materials as well. Kits are available to convert some valves but often the solution is to purchase a new valve that is already cleaned for this usage.
After the Oxygen cleaning for partial pressure blending the cylinder owner must be very diligent in keeping the cylinder absolutely clean. This means never filling it with any thing but oxygen compatible air, which is not the common grade E or SCUBA air that one finds. Oxygen compatible air is the result of special filtration and there will be a price increase for this. The cylinder cannot be filled with banked Nitrox that is not certified as oxygen compatible either. Since banked Nitrox can be made many ways it can potentially contaminate a cylinder cleaned for partial pressure blending. This is extremely important as a tank explosion can result from the introduction of the wrong type of gas into the cylinder. Always ask what is going into your cylinder.
